Computer Business Consultants, Inc., an IT services company based in Oakland, Florida, has been recognized as the “Business of the Year” by the South Lake Chamber of Commerce. The annual award was presented at a gala affair last Saturday in Clermont. To be considered for the recognition, nominees must demonstrate that they embrace giving back to the community, and encourage community involvement throughout their organization. Businesses also must endorse professional development of their staff.
For Computer Business Consultants, Inc., giving back means being a Trustee for both the South Lake and West Orange Chambers of Commerce, as well as CBCI President Clinton Pownall’s personal service as Chair of the South Lake Chamber’s Education Committee and advisor to the Lake County School System. He also supports numerous non-profit organizations in both Lake and Orange Counties, including south Lake’s New Beginnings and FAITH Neighborhood Center, and the Orlando Shakespeare Theater and United Arts of Central Florida.
Mr. Pownall, in his acceptance speech, said he was both surprised and delighted, and was quick to acknowledge his wife Lisa for her unwavering support, as well as his capable staff. He also thanked clients for their business and confidence in the company, and the chamber for creating opportunities to serve. Quoting humorist Sam Levenson, Pownall added, “As you grow older, you will discover that you have two hands one for helping yourself, and the other for helping others.”
